Why I Built GPTApps

The story of learning MCP from the ground up and creating a platform to level the playing field.

Why This Matters

I'm a software engineer who fell hard for AI. When I discovered the Model Context Protocol, I saw something incredible, a way to connect AI models to the real world through tools and APIs. The possibilities felt endless.

Then reality hit. Building MCP servers meant wrestling with API architectures, authentication flows, security concerns, and edge cases I'd never even considered. Designing interfaces for ChatGPT? That's its own rabbit hole. And don't even get me started on the hosting headaches.

So I did what any slightly obsessive engineer would do. I spent a lot of time to figure it all out. I built things, watched them break, and built them better. I learned what the documentation doesn't tell you and what actually works in practice.

The Moment It Clicked

When OpenAI announced ChatGPT Apps, I knew this was going to be massive. We're not just talking about another feature, this is going to reshape how we interact with search engines and information itself.

But here's what bothered me: the technical barrier meant only a small group of developers and well-funded companies would get to participate. Everyone else would be locked out of what could be the biggest platform shift since mobile apps.

That didn't sit right with me. I'd already done the hard work of understanding MCP inside and out. What if I could package all that knowledge into something others could actually use?

Everyone Deserves a Shot

That's why I built GPTApps. It's everything I wish had existed when I started: a platform that handles the complicated stuff so you can focus on building something people actually want to use.

You don't need to become an MCP expert. You don't need a DevOps team. You don't need to spend months learning what took me months to figure out. Create your server, design your interface, deploy it. That's it.

When the ChatGPT app ecosystem takes off, and it will. I want to make sure you're not on the sidelines. Whether you're building solo in your apartment or you're part of a bigger team, you should have the same opportunity to be part of this shift.

The ChatGPT app rush is coming. Let's make sure you're ready.
